Sunlight, stillness and a much needed pause.
The past couple of weeks have been brutal , full of competing demands, multiple roles, and the constant need to be in several places at once.
I spend a lot of time encouraging others to value rest as a meaningful occupation… yet I’ll admit, I don’t always live that out myself.
Today was a gentle reminder.
With the sun shining, I stepped into the garden and allowed myself a moment to simply pause, to notice the greenery, breathe more deeply, and be present. It was nothing extraordinary, yet it shifted everything. I felt lighter, calmer, restored.
It reminded me that rest doesn’t always require grand gestures. Sometimes it’s found in small, intentional moments of connection with ourselves and the world around us.
As occupational therapists and as individuals, maybe the real challenge isn't just to promote rest, but to practice it with the same level of commitment.
Today, I’m choosing to do just that.
What small moment of rest have you given yourself recently?
